Notes

Saw this beret knit up as a sample in Knit Purl in Portland (in orange) and loved it! So I picked the same yarns (LOFT and Silk Cloud) but in a simple soft grey colour. Started knitting on holiday and finished it up on the way home!

I did not switch to DPNS for the crown because I didn’t have any.. so I made it work with a teeny 16” circular! It is possible, but annoying because you’re magic-looping with a tiny needle and tiny cord. But if you’re on holiday and don’t want to go back to the yarn store for a third time (or suspect if you do, you’ll go home with even more yarn) then it is possible to close up the top on a 16” circ.

Easy pattern, great-looking hat! It takes forever to knit a row when you’re at the outer circle, but exciting when you start decreasing and each row gets faster.

LOFT and Silk Cloud go nicely together! Like the woman at the shop said, adding the Silk Cloud makes the loft less likely to break as it is very fragile.

This pattern is supposed to use DK-weight yarn knit at a tight gauge for a dense hat. I think I’m going to try that at some point too.
