Notes:
- knit ribbing AND body on 6mm needles. seems to work fine even though patten asks for smaller needles on ribbing.
- Rethinking the first note, this sweater would be less dense on the proper needle size, but fits OK. Perhaps if I were to make this again I’d buy 6.5 needles so it’s easier to get on and off. :)
- Quick pattern, easy to follow, cute owl pattern cable.
8/27 cast on smallest size. don’t have 6.5 needles so am using size 6.
8/30 finished body, knit until 15” from hem to armhole. Compared to some of my other sweaters that I like and they are 15”, one even a little shorter.
8/31 started first sleeve. Knit 8 rows of ribbing for cuff.
9/3 finished second sleeve, joined the body. started owl chart and it is ridiculously cute!
9/5 finished owls and neckline, bound off using Jeny’s super stretchy bind off. Looks great! Just need to work in the ends and close up the armpits and it’s all done.
9/7 grafted underarms - I put the stitches back on needles from waste yarn, and kitchener-stitched them up. three more ends to work in and then it’s blocking time!
Think I will leave off the owl eyes. The owls will be my little secret, everyone else will just think ‘nice cable pattern’ or something.
Using Puffin that was originally planned for Ambrosia but trying to get this sweater out of the unused yarn, not the frogged yarn. (If I can, then I’ll use the remaining 3 skeins of frogged yarn for a State Street Cowl. So much fat orange yarn!)
Mixed feelings on this sweater - on one hand, I love the colour, the form-fitting shape, the secret owls. On the other, I find it a little too dense and thick and it takes a bit of adjusting to get the arms straight, when you put it on. The photos are convincing me it looks pretty good though and that you can’t tell how thick it is from a distance!
