After you’ve knitted up the cap, you join the seam from point B to point C (refer to my photo with the red letters on it), then, knotting the threading yarn at point C (working on the inside of the cap), thread the yarn down at point B, secure the threading yarn there to create the slouch.
Knit the ribbed band, pin it around the cap above the brim, and sew down with yarn, this will close the cap at point A to your desired size (depending on your head) when you tie the band.
The pattern does not call for joining the seam from point A to B, but I don’t think it would look TOO different if you did, except that would determine how tight-fitting the cap is on your head, in other words, it’s not adjustable.
I decided to join the seams from point A-B because I wanted to sew the band on it so that the tying section is to one side. Now, you see, I have a lemon-sized head (so I’ve been told way too many times), so my cap was a bit too loose…therefore, when I pinned on the band, I stretched it a bit so that when it was sewn down it was more tight-fitting. That seemed to work for me.
I think if I knitted this again I would shorten the body of the cap a bit because my lemon-sized head looks a tad odd with a relatively long cap. I ended up knitting the band about 4in longer, I’m not sure whether that worked well for me.
It was postscriptlove’s version of this cap that inspired me to try making my own. LOVE her’s!
The designer, Amber, was SO helpful when I was a bit confused. The pattern was fairly easy to follow though, and a joy to knit :) It only took two evening sessions of knitting to finish the cap, and then I procrastinated for a couple of days with the band, but it’s a quick knit! Awesome!
