Yarn color: CSS: Soft pink, soft blue, cream and soft green. Added lavender blue. Loops and Thread: soft lilac.

I fell in love with this pattern when I saw the beautiful blue and pink throw: Vintage Wedding Motif. The pattern isn’t written in English but there is an excellent diagram.

I tried to crochet the square using the diagram but my first effort was awful. Then I found someone who wrote up a pattern in English and I used that to crochet my first pink sample. It was similar to the diagram but not identical. And I goofed and added an extra popcorn in one of the last round’s corners.

My second attempt was much better going with the blue in the center first and second rounds and then pink for the rest of the square. I modified the written pattern to follow the diagram (I used double crochets between the corners on the sides rather than V-stitches and double crochets). I also didn’t do the 11 stitches for a join in the corners. I used three chains between all the popcorns etc as shown in the diagram. My popcorns are four double crochets rather than five as shown in the diagram.

The blue and pink square turned out beautifully. Now to continue with the rest of the squares. I don’t know what I will do with these squares - most likely will be a small baby throw or adult lap throw.

I’m joining with the soft green yarn. I learned to join the sides of the squares first and then crochet the popcorn centers joining the four corners of each square. I crocheted the sides starting with the last two popcorns in the corner slip stitch in space, chain three, and then repeat in spaces across to include first two popcorns in the next corner… repeat around. First I joined with wrong sides together so the yarn shows on top but didn’t think it look right for this throw so I flogged and rejoined with right sides together so the yarn doesn’t show on top except for the slip stitch.

Finished the squares (4 by 5) and then decided it would “look” better 5 by 5 squares. So I crocheted five more squares. I’ve joined them all and am weaving in the ends before I start on a border/edging in the soft green yarn. Haven’t decided on the border/edging pattern yet. I usually reference Edie Eckman’s “Around the Corner Crochet Borders” for inspiration. Most of the time I wing it.

The edging is finished. At first I tried a popcorn edging #10 from EdieEckman’s borders book and while I loved it it was too busy for this throw. So I crocheted a simple three chain, single crochet in the spaces two rounds around the throw in the soft green. I love it.
