I like the Pantone “language of colors”, so I was delighted when Michaels came out with Yarnspirations Caron x Pantone a while ago.

The owl, which is derived from a popular traditional quilting pattern, works very well with the number of colors and yarn amounts of Caron x Pantone.

Weaving Instructions
Weave:

• 9 Black Forest green (19-0315)
• 24 Fuchsia purple(18-2436)
• 13 Flame orange (17-1462)
• 12 Green Glow (13-0442)
• 16 Green Milieu (16-5806)
• 53 Coconut Cream (11-4302)

Assembly and Finishing
Assemble the hexagons according to the chart. Connect hexagons into rows first, then rows to rows. Optionally you can crochet one row of single crochet stitches to finish the blanket.

Additional Notes

With a size 22” x 22” this project makes a great newborn blanket or car seat cover, or a comfort blanket for a toddler. It could also be a pretty autumn wall hanging, throw pillow, or just add more hexagons to make it anything you want. For a real challenge, make six owls, maybe even in different color combinations, and turn them into a bed spread.

While the yarn is Weight 5 Bulky, it is so smooth that it weaves beautifully on the TURTLE looms. I do recommend that you use a locker hook for weaving, because the yarn splits easily.

The yarn is relatively “heavy”, but works well for a blanket. Because of the yarn construction the weaving creates a dense fabric, but without jeopardizing drape.

If you notice that your motifs curl a little bit, you can ignore that. It will settle when you assemble the project.

The different color combinations allow you to make the owl design in many ways, for many occasions, matching many tastes! A bonus layout for a winter owl is included.

I like how the colors stay the same in different lighting conditions. Another plus is the wash-ability of the yarn, which makes it perfect for children’s articles.
