Margaret Stump explains in her “Pin Looms to Go” book how to use a sock loom for weaving.
Well, here you have it the other way around, using the TURTLE Loom hexagon pin loom for knitting!
I don’t think I will use my hexagon loom for knitting as long as I have knitting needles, but this project is a “proof of concept” that it can be done.
I used the original TURTLE Loom, and Caron Cakes worsted weight yarn to try it out.
I used a simple cast on and knitting method that is used on a French Knitter.
For each “stitch” I’m going around two nails at a time, see picture.
In summary, you get 30 stitches per round, which is - with worsted weight yarn - just perfect to go around your ankle, if you’d like to make some socks.
Please note that a woven hexagon will make a perfect heel! In other words, knit a bit, then cast off half of the stitches, and in the next row you cast on those stitches again. This will make the perfect opening to add your woven hexagon as a heel.
Note about the yarn: The yarn got stuck easily, so using a smoother yarn will definitely benefit the project.
