There is a lot of history behind the poppy flower and the Memorial Day holiday … Make your own poppy flower to remember those who gave their life during a war.
To make the large flower:
- Weave (1) red hexagon on the Original TURTLE Loom™.
- Weave (1) black hexagon on the TinyTURTLE™ loom.
To make the small flower:
- Weave (1) red hexagon on the TinyTURTLE™ loom.
- Weave (1) black hexagon on the BabyTURTLE™ loom.
Assembly:
- On the red hexagon, weave in both ends.
- On the black hexagon, use the longer tail and first secure the tail with one stitch as shown in the photo.
- Weave around the hexagon. Put the other tail into the center, then pull the working tail tight to close the hexagon into a little ball. Secure with one stitch.
- Guide the needle with the black yarn through the center of the red hexagon.
- Thread a red piece of yarn, about 12” long.
- Turn the flower, shape it into a bell (see picture).
- With the red thread, leaving a tail, sew around the bell, about 3/4” down from where the black yarn comes out. Make sure to fetch the black layer with each stitch. Do not pull the yarn.
- Tie the beginning and the end of the red yarn into a know. Sew in or clip the ends.
- Using the black yarn end, sew the flower to a pin back.
