Yesterday I visited my dear friend Charlotte to help her sew a jacket out of her several yards of beautiful saori cloth that she had woven. She gave me a thank you present, tied up with a pretty bow.
Inspired by the wonderful saori craft, I decided to try some on my hexagon loom. And once the hexagon was done, it looked like it wanted to become a greeting card!
Googled definition of “saori”:
The “SA” of SAORI has the same meaning as the first syllable of the word “SAI” which is found in Zen vocabulary. It means everything has its own individual dignity. And the “ORI” means weaving.
Weaving instructions? Whatever, really. Weave a hexagon and tie in pretty pieces of fiber. I had gathered a few yarns, and a piece of the bow that was used to wrap my present. Also, today I tried twill weaving on the hexagon loom today, so that had to be part of it. Lastly, I added a lock of mohair. Charlotte had several of them in her cloth, so that’s a “me too”, although hers were much prettier.
Additional supplies:
- I used stick-on Hook&Loop fasteners (no glue)
- I mounted the hexagon onto a 5” x 7” greeting card (and of course it comes with an envelope).
