Notes

The Spool Knave. Now known as a Lazy Kate…I prefer the old name.
This tool solves the insidious problem of back spinning and tangling when yarn winding & plying. It will not tangle or tip. It has a real violin peg with a 30-1 taper as the tensioner & 19 strand coated steel as the brake.

I used instrument makers principles and a lifetime of working with rigging in heavy industry to come up with this solution. Look closely at an industrial
wire pulling rig and you will see the same principles at work. Hopefully mine are prettier than those…

I remember one afternoon when we were pulling a mile of heavy conductor and it dropped into a 34,000 volt primary, while I was at the tension controls…Drama…Burning tires…Whipping conductors…Freeze in place…Then it was over…

Would much rather make a Spool Knave for the Spinners….

Spools to hold the yarn.
A weighty base to prevent tipping
A tensioning device…
