I had lots of beautiful sky blue Summer Tweed left over from frogging my Summer Sky pullover a while back. I knew I needed to stretch the yarn in some way as I wanted a new pullover that would be a looser fit than I’d done for Summer Sky. I found a bunch of new colors last spring and was ready to start!
I used the new colours for a border design borrowed from Michele Rose Orne’s Greek Mosaic Pullover. I adapted the scroll chart on my computer in Excel and coloured it to match my yarns. I drew a new lower border as the greek key motif in the original chart didn’t knit up well to my eye. I also added several colours to the background and a few details in the upper portion of the scroll to make the floats across the back shorter.
Other than the chart I didn’t follow the Greek Mosaic Pullover pattern at all; I made it up myself. It’s knitted in the round, with seed stitch borders. I used my new border design on the sleeves and shoulders to spread the colours around a bit.
The Greek Mosaic Pullover is from the terrific Knitting the New Classics from Classic elite. This book is from 1995 and is worth every penny if you find a copy somewhere. While the styles are big and boxy, there are tons of great details and ideas in them and this is a favourite go-to book.
