Notes

8 October 2024: done. Buttons sewn using Harrisville Shetland.

re: the pattern: it’s super addictive and meditative and easy to memorize. But having said that, it is by no means a telly-watching knit. I found picking up stitches for this one especially tricky.

re: the pockets: these are the slimmest pockets ever. I can probably fit a keycard and an ID, and maybe a fun size chocolate bar (it is almost Halloween!).

Measurements (taken flat):
Body circ: 21” across
Body length from underarm to bind off edge: 11”
Sleeve length from underarm to bind off edge: 16”
Upper arm circ: 7”
Cuff circ: 3.75”

Mods:
• needles used
• BACK: Added a total of four addl sts (two on each side). Instead of the 11-st moss on the left and right sides, I did only 6 sts of moss, then PKP, then added the 4-st cable before selvedge stitch. And oh— I skipped the leg.
• left & right front: increased for size 4, with hopes that the first button will fall a tad lower.
• sleeves: picked up enough sts for size 5. Decreased 12 times total. Then on first round of rib decreased three more times down to 52 sts.
• pockets: did not do a tube. Bound off the ribbed stitches, purlwise, leaving long enough tails on either end for seaming. Cast on two extra stitches to the cabled strip and knitted the cabled pattern. And seamed the pockets.
• cuff and body ribbed hem: had to do some witchcraft so that the single demarcating knit stitches are also knit in the 1x1 rib.
• buttonband: like Champgne Cardi.

Needles:
US8: cast-on and for the body
US6: rib
US4: button band

Amt of yarn used: I neglected to weigh the three cones of yarn. Sweater weighs just a tad shy of 600g.

Buttons from mood fabrics: brown plastic button 40L/25.5mm (item #14499)

1 October 2024: couldn’t wait after all. Went ahead and handwashed it — twice! but it still sort of smelled and it grew. So I bit the bullet and threw it in the front loader. I think there’s the teensiest chance that it felted grimacing but it’s more likely that the yarn just bloomed and plumped up (that’s what I’ll go with) and it looks amazing! Also it doesn’t smell any more. Now it’s drying on the rack.

Bought buttons from Mood last night. Now I wait.

30 September 2024: off the needles! YAYAYAYAYYAAYY

29 September 2024: goal is to have this off the needles before the westknits mkal starting October 3. I totes think that’s doable. But I won’t get around to washing this until mid November.

28 September 2024: pockets, done. All that’s left is the button band (and weaving in ends, buttons, washing).

23 September 2024: sleeves both done. God I hate picking up stitches. I somehow picked the number of stitches for a size 5 although that had not been my intention— I was thinking size 4. Oh well.

19 September 2024: put body on hold. switched to sleeves.

18 September 2024: joined left, back and right. Rows are super long now.

15 September 2024: I ripped it. Will add the cable to left and right sides so that they meet on the body’s side seams. Cast on again for umpteenth time. US8, size 3.

14 September 2024: didn’t like the twisted knit stitch after all, so cast on again, US7, incorporating kneetpearl’s mods. I love her mods but since I don’t have instagram, I couldn’t reach out to her but it was easy enough to figure out… It could be my death grip but the added cable made the shoulder feel much too rigid. And when I pulled on it, the added cable would get all flat…

13 September 2024: I’ve cast on twice or maybe even thrice at this point and getting as far as halfway up the shoulder charts. First US7, then US8. Then US7 again, but this time twisting the sole demarcating knit stitch running up and down the pattern.
