I came up with an easy recipe for a Messy Bun hat using this coloful chunky yarn. I can make three hats with two ball of yarn.

Using the smaller hook, I crocheted a band of 6 or 7 HDC blo until the band was about 19 inches long.

Finish the band by joining ends (slip stitching the ends together) then HDC around and sl st into first HDC.

I then use one of the following stitch patterns.

For the first stitch pattern I switch to the larger hook, ch 1 then {HDC blo, HDC flo}
For both stitch patterns I do not finish off each row. I just keep crocheting in the stitch pattern for 11-13 rows then decrease to make the bun opening.

For the second stitch pattern i switched to the larger hook chain 1 then Linen Stitch for 11-13 rows. This is the stitch pattern: {1sc ch1 sk1} repeat.
