I have knit the back and one of the fronts on this cardigan as per today’s podcast episode
25-05-2024
I made several mistakes on this pattern and had to frog back.
Firstly, I measured gauge over stockinette, but I should have measured gauge in the smocking stitch because it has a narrower gauge than stockinette does and I had to add extra stitches on the fly.
Secondly, I learned now that with smocking stitches always put purls on the seaming edges because I ended up with an un-smocked vertical rib on the side where I planned to seam which looked ugly.
Thirdly, for some reason my project biased considerably in this stitch pattern.

Back
91 stitch ribbing, includes 2 selvedge each side
89 stitch pattern row because 11 stitches per pattern repeat X 8 is not mirrored. Start and end with cable by removing 3 stitches (85), add 2 selvedge stitches each side (89).
Inc every 10 rows, 6 total increases. Form two columns of the 3-stitch pattern within the 11 stitch after 60 rows (6 increases). Underarms start row 90.
At underarms CO 7 stitches each side, then 1 stitch each side every 2 rows for 7 decreases each side.
Knit 5 pattern repeats tall from underarms then cast off, 10 beginning of next 2 rows, 10 beginning of next 2 rows, then all remaining.
Front
49 stitch ribbing until matches back.
Extra stitch at edges, CO 8 stitches instead of 7.
Double the 3-stitch pattern to mirror either side of the garter stitch border (12 stitches).
When border is 9 holes high, cast off border then decrease neck edge every front row until front matches back.
Sleeves - CO 49 (2 st selvedge each side)
Rib for 24 rows. Increase by 2 once past cuff.
Knit without increases for 1 pattern then increase each side once per pattern 11 times to underarm. Total 13 pattern repeats before CO at underarms.
(4 repeats wide becomes 6 repeats wide)
CO 7 stitches each side then decrease 1 stitch each side on RS row for 7 instances. Then decrease 1 stitch each side on every second RS row until the end of the third cable of 5. Then decrease 1 stitch every RS side until 5 pattern repeats completed. Then knit one more RS row, then cast off on WS (16 stitches).
