Notes

I want to use every scrap of this yarn, so I have used a provisional cast on just above the bottom ribbing and can add the ribbing at the end.

Instead of doing a gauge swatch, I’m just using 3.25mm needles since that is my standard for 4ply stockinette and after a few inches I’ll block and measure the gauge. This yarn is not big, so if anything it will be a tighter gauge which I prefer around my waistline anyway. It’s quite common for vintage patterns to go up a needle size past the waist.

I reached to the top of the diamonds on the front and measured that I need to knit 35 more rows to reach the tip of the shoulder and 50 more rows to reach the top of the neck.

I’ll follow the pattern for decreasing around the front neckline for convenience.

My gauge is perfect, but sadly it’s a bit wide around the waist still. This seems to happen a lot, next time I will try decreasing for the waist instead. When I add my ribbing at the bottom I’ll try to draw it in considerably.

While the original pattern was from Table Talk New Jumpers 1933, I frogged and switched to the ‘Inverness’ Pattern in Patons booklet ‘Scottish Fair Isles’. For the standarded colourwork section I took a chart from the book ‘Selbu Knitting’.

This fits me very well although I was worried that I had made my armscye a bit too tall and my waist too narrow.
