I didn’t update this project at all until now and now I’m halfway through the project so I’ll have to try to fill in all the details.

First, I decided I was going to knit this with some multi-colored crazy yarn I had in my stash on a cone from yarns from Italy.com. by accident I used the wrong knitting needle size and it turned out much too loose gauge. I had to frog that whole project and start over.

It wasn’t until after I had started over with a different yarn that I discovered the knitting needle size was wrong. So by this stage I had redesigned the project to use a totally different yarn since the majority of yarns in my stash are fourply. In the end I used the same yarn as my previous project because I already had some left and I knew the gauge.

I knit the arms and everything turned out as per my calculations but then when I completed one side of the front I realised that I didn’t have enough yarn. In all reality, I should have realised this beforehand but it just didn’t occur to me at the time.

So, since I had some more yarn the same again but in another colour I commenced knitting the front in the other colour yarn. (Arms are red, front and back are now blue). Since I am including a cobweb silk cashmere yarn with my wool like I did in the last project to get the same gauge, I will overdye the finished project. I am hoping that using a single dye colour for the whole project in between the two shades of wool will will make the project look cohesive at the end, even though it will still be obvious that they’re two different colours.

I’ll need to swatch it though because that might look too marled.

Because I’m getting a little bit bored of seaming, I decided to knit all of the body in one piece. I’m yet to see whether this was a good idea or a bad one. Suddenly it is a lot more stitches on the needle, and it probably would have been easier had I just seamed it.

Also, since this project has you knit on a folded-edge border at the end, I decided to knit the whole body in the round and cut down the centre prior to adding the border. I’m using the knot method of securing the edge stitches which is a new technique for me but one I’ve been keen to try, because I want to try fair isle for another project and my yarn to use is superwash.

This afternoon I resumed this project as a WIP for the Colourmart contest.

I’m about 50% done because I’m done with sleeves, I’m 25-30% up the body, and I have not started the quite wide, folded band.

Wow it’s been a little while since I added to my project notes, bummer too as I forgot to write down the exact stitch count I used for my button band / front border.

I needle felt steeked the front and armholes and then spent ages attaching the arms. It was a bit tricky as I was worried it would fray too much and not attach well.

19 10-row, 8-stitch cables from bottom to top on the border. I am guessing it is 26 stitches across based on measurements.

This project ended up being the “Cardigan of Doom” but its finished now. I have discussed further in my YouTube episode 10. (YouTube @petramanos)
