I have been knitting lace projects for the last 8 years. Let me tell you that it is a love-hate thing. For this project I have had this book and yarn since 2007 in my queue, but other things have kept it in my queue. This week I took this project along on a vacation to Colorado with the very idea that I could start this--FINALLY! I had the exact yarn the pattern called for Louet Gems Pearl in Terra Cotta. Pretty color for my skin tone. I love knitting in 100% wool in a fingering weight. As I proceed through the first chart for the first border of 13 rows. Easy and pretty. Then I start the main chart. I knit through the first 11 rows. Damn I find an error. I have used stitch markers for all of the repeats to check my work for all 25 stitch repeats. I love the twisted stitch. Donna is a great designer. Nice person who tweets with me. Really, she does! OK DAMN IT! Another need to rip back due to errors. At this time, my DH and I are on a 15 hour drive home where I should have a relaxing time to knit…BUT NO! I can’t seem to get a handle on this lace. Why not? I can knit this.
OK, people I am not having fun. I am going to stop. I really give this a lot of thought. A LOT OF THOUGHT. I just refuse to give up, BUT HEY, I have just spent 10 hours of solid knitting. I can knit anything else but lace may not be my thing/thang. I don’t want to spend so much time on this and not have it look nice. I don’t want this to be the knit that frustrates me when I love cables or color work. Tomorrow I will frog.
I love this book and its’ stories. And I will pay a lot of compliments to the lace knitters in my life. I am alright with this.
In Aspen we ate at Matsuhisa “Exceptional fusion cuisine blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian & Argentine ingredients.” I had sea bass with truffle oil. It was incroyable.
