This fingerless mitt pattern is based on the wonderful mitt design by Joyce Dawson who fashioned hers from Amanda Muscha’s Brambles Beret pattern featured in Knitty Deep Fall 2010.
This pattern features top down construction allowing the knitter to make the mitt to any length before starting the thumb gusset. Sizing is approx. 7-8” in circumference.
Chart: Use “Body Chart” from Amanda’s Beret pattern. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/brambles-beret
Notes: May Repeat Rounds 14-29 until you are near your desired length.
M1L=Make 1 Left, M1R=Make 1 Right

Continue Rounds 14-20 with Thumb Gusset Increases by slipping marker, M1L, knit to end of gusset stitches, then M1R. Gusset increases will be on rounds 16, 19, 22, 25 and 29 until a total of 13 stitches are between markers.
Repeat Rounds 16-29. On Round 14, knit to marker, remove marker, place 13 gusset sts on waste yarn, use backward-loop method to cast on 1 stitch over gap, knit to end of round.
Next round, work even.
Work K1, P1 ribbing on cable side and Continue K2, P1 ribbing on palm side for 3 rounds.
Bind off.
Thumb. Transfer 13 stitches from thumb gusset to 3 DPNs, spacing stitches evenly over needles. Join yarn, pick up and knit 1 stitch in gap over thumb sts and join for working in the round - 14 sts total. Work until desire length (I worked to my thumb knuckle). Then knit 3 rounds of 1x1 ribbing. Bind off.
