I want to make a summer cardigan using a cotton yarn and have settled on Sirdar’s Cotton Prints Dk. I’ve seen other people online say how easy it is to work with, and having made up some samples I completely agree. It’s SO easy to work with! I bought 600g - I hope that’s enough!
Anyway, I’m having trouble finding a design I like as the stitch pattern pretty well disappears due to the quick colour changes in the yarn. I’ve decided to use the waistcoat pattern I’ve used before - see my other project page.
It’s a 4ply pattern and, as before, I’m using DK. I’ve done a test square and will make the size 18. I’ll try and adjust the neckline to make it a scoop neck rather than V, and will obviously need to then add sleeves.
Fingers crossed…
Okay. Let’s just say that not only is this cotton yarn a joy to work with it unpicks well too!
I worked a treble stitch foundation row of 210 sts. It looked too long. I unpicked 20 sts, then worked 4 rows of trebles. It was still WAY too long,so I’ll unpicked all the trebles, along with another 20 foundation stitches.
So I’m now following the directions for a size 10!
Hmm. …its now coming out quite small. ..maybe I should have made a size 12… I’m sure I can work some magic though. Maybe…

It’s going pretty well now. I unpicked the first front and re-did it with a better scoop shape to the neck. I also worked 3 rows vertically along the front edge to give it an extra couple of inch or so in size…
Now I’m working on the lace “ skirt”. I’ve adjusted the pattern slightly to work better with the cotton yarn, and soon will go up a hook size too.
Haven’t given much thought to the sleeves yet…

Hmm…I’ve really run out of steam with this and I’m seriously thinking of ripping it back and knitting a sleeveless top, or developing it into a waistcoat.
Either way,I don’t think it will ever be a cardigan. ..
