I’ve wanted to make a ripple blanket for a while and when I saw some of Sirdar’s huge range of colours were available at my local store, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a range of blues, with a little teal, white and sand and put them to one side until I manage to start inventing time!!

I’m terrible for not properly following a pattern but taking bits from here and there, so I’m doing a variation of Lucy’s pattern -
http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/neat-ripple-pattern.html

I’ve seen a nice wavier version on Angie’s Le Monde de Sucrette as well -
http://www.lemondedesucrette.com/2011/10/20/ripples-of-ha...

However, having now done the recommended sample of each, I prefer the look of Lucy’s gentle ripple.

OOPS!!! A week into the project starting and I can see the error of my ways…
To start with, I should have done a bigger sample piece - I thought I had calculated the right number of stitches for 45” wide but it’s only coming out as 36”… Also, although I’m following Lucy’s stitch pattern, I decided not to turn the work and do a second row in the same colour (except for white) but to do one row per colour, always worked from the front. This gives a lovely smooth texture but, as ever, stupid Tina didn’t think it through. Failing to turn the work isn’t keeping the pattern straight but is allowing it to drift up and to the right, as you can see from one of the photos.
If I were ambidextrous and could work row 2 from left to right it wouldn’t be a problem. But I’m not.

I think I’ll have to have a re-think. I still want a ripple blanket but don’t like the look of “wrong side rows” - it makes me think of garter stitch which I really don’t like!
I’ve seen blankets that have lacey ripples and bobbly ripples, so I might have to sit and work out a new pattern myself. Watch this space…
Having hunted round and trying out a couple of patterns, including this one -

I’ve settled (for the moment…) on Beth Elliot’s 6 Day Kid Blanket pattern. A mixture of trebles and granny stitches. I’ll put this on a separate project page called Rippling Clusters.

I really like the smooth look of my squiffy ripple, and as I’ve already stitched in all the ends, it may miraculously be transformed into a bag eventually. Or maybe a cushion cover. I’d need to add some rows but it would make a nice cushion cover.

Just added a couple of photos that show how far off my stitches are!

I’ve finally started turning this into a bag. Find it on its own project page.

Scrub that! It became a cushion/pillow cover and looks great.
