300 grams of light fingering to weight-sport weight (the 3 skeins vary slightly, 1st one was more sport-weight than fingering, 2nd was light fingering mostly, and the 3rd seems to be somewhere in-between) 100% wool yarn. The yarn is a hand-dyed yarn by David Johnson (Arachne Dying and Weaving). Customer picked it up at this year’s Rocky Mountain Weaver’s Guild Annual Fiber Arts sale. 300 grams total (100 grams each color)
28 November 2012 It is FINISHED! 76 inches long unblocked, about 15 inches wide. Blocked dimensions need to be 20 inches by 96 inches…. I will begin washing and soaking around 2pm so that it is ready to be pinned out by 4 when I go home for the day. Fingers crossed!!! THe turquoise bleeds like crazy-- I see a lot of rinsing in my day today…. I like the color transition between the turquoise and the medium blue, but the transition from the medium blue to navy is a bit jarring.
UPDATE : Uh-oh….It’s soaking now, but the turquoise section is VERY noticably thicker than the rest of it. It’s definitely more DK/Sport weight while the other 2 sections are defniltey fingering/light fingering. Those sections are nice and soft and fluid in the water. The turquoise section is thick and stiff, like felt. I’m more than a little worried about it! And the yarn is bleeding like crazy!
2nd UPDATE: Unfortunately, the turquoise section actually shrunk and felted somewhat just from soaking. The other two sections are just fine-- lovely in fact. I’m not sure what the heck happened to the turquoise section, but I am disappointed. On the plus side-- I did manage to get 98 inches on the length, so slightly more than 8 feet. But not 20 inches wide-- only 19 inches wide. I wonder if the turquoise yarn was something completely different from the other 2…. very weird what it did!
