Needed to replace mom’s favorite baby doll-- he’s been down to 1 arm for over a year, has dreadfully matted hair, stuck eyes and has gotten incredibly dirty. Bought an Ashton Drake boy, EXPENSIVE boy, but that face! It’s meant to be a decoy for my mom while I sneak her beloved boy out to the doll hospital. They said they could replace his arm and hair in a day or so. That way, if mom doesn’t bond with this kid, her boy will be back before she knows it. Then, I dunno. I might just keep the little guy. He IS cute…. Or I might donate it to the Alzheimer’s unit at Lutheran’s, where my mom lives. They do a lot of baby doll therapy, and there’s one sweet lady in particular who I think would just ADORE him. Anyway, in keeping with the subversive Operation Get-the-boy-to-the-doll-hospital, I knitted the new boy a sage-green sweater just like the one her beloved boy currently wears. One sleeve is shorter than the other. What can I say-- I finished this up at 2 in the morning in order to have it ready for today!

I brought mom’s repaired baby back to her today. She definitely missed him-- she looked so surprised and happy to see him, held out her arms to receive him. Then she cried a little and touched her forehead to his. Then she held him for about an hour, fell asleep, woke up and interacted with him, talking softly in Japanese, touching foreheads, and laughing. One of these days, I’ll be super fast with the camera and capture the touching foreheads thing. It is SOOOO sweet….
