Notes

Thinking of making these for Mom for Christmas. Will be doing a lot of swatching.

CO with 3.5mm needles; got gauge of 7sts/inch. CO with 3.75mm needles; got (band) gauge of 6sts/inch.

Began pattern.

Am feeling overwhelmed.

Just realized that the instructions were “knit, purl, make-the-6YO-stitch-four-times,” and not “(knit, purl, make the 6YO stitch) Have knit plain St st in the round a couple of times, will pick up again later.

2012/10/21 - Did JMCO for 20sts on 3.25mm needles. Knit as follows (abbreviated, see 2012/12/16 DW note for details):

Rows 1-3, increase 4
4: k
5: increase 4
6: k
Rows 7-15: increase 4 on odd rows, 2 on even rows.
16: k
17: increase 4

Knit half a row (34 sts) to get to the start of the instep. Place first marker A. (Place second marker B after 34 sts.)

Work 40 rows foot of sock:
A p1, 32-st top of foot chart, p1, B k34

Work an increase over the next five rows as follows:

  1. A instep, B k2, m1l, k30, m1r, k2
  2. A instep, B k3, m1l, k30, m1r, k3
  3. A instep, B k4, m1l, k30, m1r, k4
  4. A instep, B k5, m1l, k30, m1r, k5
  5. A instep, B k6, m1l, k30, m1r, k6

Place insteps on stitch holders; work a short row heel, wrapping 12 sts/side. Round starts at the start of the heel. Work decreases over the next five rows as follows:

  1. A slip the first stitch, k4, k2tog, k28, ssk, k4, p2tog after crossing stitches. Knit the top of foot chart. Remove A, p2tog the last and first stitches after crossing them, and replace A.
  2. A knit the heel flat, place B p1, knit the top of foot chart, p1.
  3. A k3, k2tog, k28, ssk, k3, B p1, top of foot chart, p1.
  4. as round 2.
  5. A k2, k2tog, k28, ssk, k2, B p1, top of foot chart, p1.

Continue to knit as follows: A k1, back of leg chart, k1, B p1, front chart, p1.

Knit 5 repeats, then finished with 15 rows of ribbing.
