9/6/2013 - cast on for a sleeve. Knitting the XL size. (Note that this means that after I decrease/end the cabling, there are 16 plain rows before I start with the increases.)
Following the pattern is ok for sleeve, but I actually have a gauge of 19 sts/4”, and 31 rows/4”, rather than 20sts and 26 rows. (I think. Will double-check in morning.) May need to adjust body slightly.
21/9/2013 - cast on 220 for the body. Followed pattern. Knit 36 rows after cabling and before decrease. Decreased four times instead of five - reduced to 204. Knit 12 rows straight.
Blocked gauge is 19.5 sts/4”, 29 rows/4”. This means it is 45.12” around, reducing to 41.84” around.
Thinking it needed to go 7” up from the waist. THat’s 51 rows.
Increased only towards the front; knit plain rows between short rows to smooth the back curve.
29/10/2013 - blocked, and worrying. Marked increase/decrease beginnings with safety lines, knit together top and one sleeve with contrasting yarn. Mailing off to Mom.
25/11/2013 - Back with notes. Second sleeve nearly completely knit.
The sleeve that needs to be lengthened by an inch has sixteen rows after the increase. It needs another eight. The second sleeve, which I am still working on, needs a total of twenty-four rows after the last increase.
(I have marked the last increase with a big orange stitch-marker.)
29/11/2013 - Joined sleeves and body in the round. 290 stitches. Front between sleeves is 92 sts. To keep the pattern centred, will need to start the cable repeats four stitches after the left rear sleeve BOR marker.
3/12/2013 - finished knitting the sixteen rounds (2”) before beginning the cables. knit the first row of the first four cable repeats.
12/12/2013 - finished cable repeats. reduced 290 sts to 240 sts by repeating {k4, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k4, k2tog} for entire row.
18/12/2013 - started on the seventh ball, just after starting on the last cabling at the top of the yoke.
19/12/2013 - sweater done except underarms and ends! (Neck is 84 sts, not 80.)
3-needle bind-off for underarms. All ends woven in. Blocking now.
20/12/2013 - Today, I baked the sweater very gently to have it ready to go into the mail on time, and sent it off.
