Update: I typed up the pattern…eek! I adjusted some of the instructions based on my notes so we’ll see…

my little sister loves my golden herringbone cowl and asked for a cowl in exact yarn + golden color, I saw this cowl on ModCloth and I think I can make something pretty similar…

I’ve looked all over for the lattice/basket stitch used on this cowl and this woven basket stitch is the closest I’ve found…

ModCloth cowl measures 48 inches in circumference, 14 inches in width. I’ll be making mine with the same or close to these measurements.

11/7: CO 52 with size 10 1/2 needles using provisional cast on. Tried a few rows of the basket stitch above and although it’s a beautiful stitch, it’s not exactly what I’m looking for. I decided to try this basket weave stitch instead.

…after 3 or 4 rows I am liking this stitch a lot better, but I think I’m going to start over on larger needles so it drapes a little nicer.

11/8: CO 56 with size 11 needles using provisional cast on. Much better!

I knit the basket weave stitch for about 24 inches and then switched to garter stitch for another 24 inches. I ended up decreasing a good 15-16 stitches due to the change in stitch, if I had to do this again I would have immediately decreased the stitches on the first row of garter stitch so there wouldn’t be any weird flaring out like I had, luckily when you have the cowl on you don’t notice it. And my little sis loved it so that’s all that matters to me!
