Not long after joining ravelry, I came across Little Green Dragon’s, Echoing Laminaria, I placed it in my favourites and knew one day I would attempt to knit this beautiful shawl for myself.
I love knitting, but have not found myself so completely addicted to a project - ever! The challenge of morphing two shawls together, along with estonian stitches, not previously attempted was a heady mix - loved every minute!
The hardest part for me was progressing past the set-up chart, eventually in a ravelry forum I came across the written directions for Laminaria, the centre section was explained and all of a sudden everything made sense, plain sailing commenced untill just before the finish where you progress from Echo Edge to Laminaria Edge 2, the stitch count is out and care is needed to make sure the stitches stack up correctly - can’t say that I was exactly spot on with this - never mind, the shawl is beautiful and I love it.
I’m a very symetrical sort of girl, thus couldn’t cope with the stars lying in different directions either side of the centre stitch so the usual mod of k3tog changed to sssk after centre stitch, I also used Little Green Dragon’s brilliant mod of 3 into 7 every 4th row makes a much nicer looking spine.
Fyberspates elegance is beautifully soft and the high silk content ensures wonderful drape, I beaded here and there with 4mm Swarovski Crystals and hand sewed quite a few more on to the cast off edge - just for good measure!
