I need something to dress upp a summer dress with thin shoulder strips. I also have sandals matching the colours of the yarn.
gauge:
19 x 44 = 10 x 10 cm garter stitch
19 x 32 = 10 x 10 cm stockinette
Pattern:
Knitted in the round, top down. A narrow collar (garter st) on a wide opening; increases (2 st each 2nd row) adds interest with the wide stripes of the yarn and allows the cowl to gently hug the shoulders.
Shape: trapezoid, one right angle one acute angle. Neckline at the right angle.
Neckline:
CO 150 sts. I used cabled CO.
R1-R20: Knit in rows, back and forth (10 garter ridges).
Join in the round by knitting together the last st of previous row with the first st on the current row. Add a marker before this st.
Body:
R21: inc1 each 10 sts.
R22: knit until the marker
R23: m1l, sm, slip st, m1r, knit to marker
R24: knit to marker
Repeat R23-R24 until 60 g yarn left.
Lace edge:
Count the number of sts and make sure you have an odd multiple of 13 sts. If not, add increases equally spaced.
R1: purl.
R2-R52: follow lace pattern. Only odd numbered rounds are charted; on the even numbered rounds alternate stockinette and reverse stockinette as on the round before.
Bind off loosely. I used ktbl, slip back 2 st, k2tbl.
Alternatively, add a few rounds of garter stitch until almost out of yarn and BO.
Block. Wear proudly.
Notes:
I wanted to start the lace edge at the place where a color change occurred in my yarn - when 60 g yarn was left on the 2nd ball. The yarn was exactly sufficient for one repeat of the lace pattern (I had 3 meters yarn over).
