Notes

Another beautiful pattern from Shannon Cook. This hat is part of a set with fingerless mitts - both are so quick and fun to make and, in the BT Quarry yarn, are soooooo cozy!

Note to self: KNIT MORE WITH THIS YARN. It is heavenly light and soft!

Working with Quarry: Some knitters have commented that the yarn is very “twisty” and hard to handle but I haven’t had any problems with it at all. As always, I used a swift and ball-winder to wind into ‘cakes’ (I generally don’t pull from the centre of the balls and in this case I definitely don’t recommend it - doing so could put too much pressure on the yarn and cause it to break). In this case, I wound the cakes slowly so as not to pull and stretch the yarn. And while knitting, after pulling a length of yarn, I gently smooth it with my fingers to reduce any twisting that might want to happen. Others have referred to BT’s very helpful tip sheet for Quarry. Here’s a link to it from the BT website.

As for knots, when winding the yarn, I noticed a single knot in each skein but the yarn spit-splices so easily that it’s no big deal. There is a fair bit of VM, but it’s easy to pick out as you meet it. It really is the loveliest of sheepy yarn. I love it and want sweaters and hats and wraps and everything out of it!

The second to last photo is of an actual landslide in a quarry. Get it? Ha ha! ;)
