Pattern Errors:
-Ridge 4 of the body: The short row math seems to be off. I just knit/purled to the end of the row on rows 21 and 24. Without changing the knit/purl to 4 stitches after the GSR-Sl, the rows would never resolve and would be left with a stitch on either end that hadn’t been worked.
-Row 20 of the head should be GSR-SL1, p3, pu6 pw, p2 turn. Because of the direction of the p2togBO in the previous row.
-Row 25 of the head should be k5, turn.
Pattern Notes/modifications
-If I make this pattern again I think I will do MP3’s above the dorsal fin space for a more pronounced dorsal ridge. Also I think I’d do the front panel in a contrast color
-Because this is a baby gift, I omitted the pipe cleaner and beaded eyes
-I did mp3’s for all of the first four head ridges
-For the dorsal fin I did an extra row of increases followed by an extra row of ribbing to make the fin a little bigger. I also added picots to the cast off to match the rest of the spikes on this showy boy.
Modified dorsal fin cast off: mp2, co5, mp1, co6, mp2, co5, mp1, co5, mp2. Cut yarn and pass the yarn tail through the last stitch loop. Pull tight then sew in end to secure the last picot.
Final thoughts:
Overall I loved this pattern. I love how anatomically accurate this seahorse looks. The designer obviously put a lot of thought into this pattern. I would definitely knit this again. The pattern included detailed descriptions of the required techniques along with maby pictures illistrating the intended directions. This is a very well written pattern. That being said I did run into a few issues with this pattern. First was that it was advertised as a seamless knit and I don’t think that is accurate. This seahorse is knit in panels that are joined by picking up the edge stitches and using 3 needle bind offs. There is also some mattress stitch seaming involved. I don’t mind any of this and it makes a ton of sense both structurally and visually to knit it this way, I just wish that it hadn’t been advertised as seamless. I had imagined I would be mostly knitting in the round and would have allowed myself more time to finish the project if I knew I’d be picking up and joining edges across most or the project. Being a paid pattern, I didn’t realize this till after I had already purchased. There were also some errors in the pattern, but they were easy to resolve. All that aside, I LOVE this design and I love how my seahorse turned out so I definitely don’t regret my purchase.
