Finished knitting the band, 19 stitches casted on.
Made a mistake with the bind off not being stretchy enough to match the cast on.

I didn’t cut the yarn after binding off and used a crochet hook to seam both ends of the band together.

Still using the uncut yarn, I picked up and knitted stitches around the top brim edge.
49 stitches picked up, so first round will be k2tog, knit. Second will be start of decreases. 48/8=6

Probably a few mistakes with picking up stitches evenly, but the fluffy will hide all.

The hat is super floppy, but super fluffy.
It doesn’t have a good shape along the top brim though. I think the decreases pull the upper brim inwards, making the hat look slightly like a beanie.

It has close to a pillbox-shape if I wear it high on my forehead. I’ll need to reinforce the shape later in the future.
