Slouchy Leg Vanilla Sock with the pizazz of Hudson Bay Trading Company stripes added in. This is not a line by line pattern - you should have basic sock construction in your toolkit.
Cast on March 28 to commemorate my sister’s one-year date. I made a pair of these socks for her a couple of years before she passed. She loved them.
Cuff - Cast on 64, size 2.25 mm (US 1). K1tbl, P1 around for 1.75”.
Leg - Stockinette - 12 rows ecru, 10 rows contrast color in this order: ecru, blue, ecru, gold, ecru, red, ecru, green, ecru to the heel area. About 100 rows after the cuff.
Heel and gusset -you will construct your heel using 1/2 of your stitiches. I used an Eye of Partridge heel flap. Do your heel of choice - any heel works.
Foot - about 7” from back of heel to toe decrease. REVERSE the colors - 15 rows ecru, 5 rows Contrast color in this order: green, ecru, red, ecru, gold, ecru, blue, finish sock up with ecru. About 80 rows for foot.
Black scrap yarn used for 3.5 points after finishing final blue stripe on foot. 3 rows ecru, 8 black stitches at BOR, repeat twice. Last black stripe is 4 stitches. Start toe decrease.
Turn sock inside out when starting toe decrease. The reason I turn the sock inside out is so the three-needle bind-off seam will be to the inside of the sock. If you are using the Kitchener stitch, there is no need to do this.
Toe decrease - row 1 - standard decrease of k2tog and ssk with two knit stitches in between decreases. row 2 - knit. Repeat until there are 18-20 stitches remaining.
Bind off - three-needle bind-off with 18-20 stitches. This is my go-to sock bind-off. My feet are picky - I never notice the little bind-off ridge at the end of the toe.
