I improvised this cloche style hat by first making a basic beret shape at the crown, then increasing for the widest part of the head, then decreasing in a decorative manner to mimic a ribbon around the lower part of the hat just before the brim.

Rows upon rows were frogged to get just the right effect, which was finally achieved.
