5-Dent reed.
Plain weave with a few sections of Leno.
If I make this again, I might not beat as dense as this one, but this still feels pretty cushy.
I forget which yarn store in Montpellier sold the 100% alpaca from Peru, but it was delightful.
April 2017: I’ve decided this is too heavy, meaning I packed the weft too close and the weight the fabric instead of light and flurry is too stiff. Ok for a wall hanging or cold weather poncho, but not what I want. So I’ve cut off some length, created new fringe, and am pulling out some weft threads every few inches. I figure it’s about the same as having to weave in ends, just the reverse and the ends may stay secure w/o any weaving of ends. TBD.
March 2019: Pulling out many of the weft ends has made this WONDERFUL!!! I literally just reached into the middle of the scarf and yanked out a weft, then moved a short distance up or down did it again. You’ll wonder--did I need to weave in the broken ends of the weft? Nope! Not a single end is sticking out. As I yanked out the weft in the finished product I would pull from the center of the row (width-wise) but not enough to pull out the ends. This translates to ‘weaving in the end’ for the next row of weft, just by being careful to not fully dislodge that pic. That worked for about 90% of the ones I pulled out, and I probably pulled about 30 to 50 pics of weft out. Alot. In some areas the remaining wefts got loose and slid some, creating an airy, lace-like area in the scarf, which I also love! Doing this really saved this project, and turned it from ‘slightly disappointing’ into something I now love!
I need to post a new picture so you can see the difference. Hope I remember to do so.
