Notes

Beware, my yarn usage is an estimate. I did not do a good job keeping track of how many skeins I used.

My Gauge on U.S. 9
Stitches = 4.5 per inch
Rows = 8.25 per inch
Target width piece 1: 48” / 24” per side
Ended side one with 206 stitches;

CO 108 stitches.

Resumed working on this Dec 2015.

It appears I used the Long Tail Co for this vs my now standard German Twisted CO. (2015)

Side 2 ended with 221 sts. I finished with the completion of a RS row so I have “ridge” row for grafting.

I’m going to add more rows (ridges) and stitches to Side 1. It should be 220 sts when I end and prepare to do the shoulder seams, neck opening, back short rows, and sleeves. I should have the same total but being off one stitch is not too bad, just means I forgot 1 stitch increase somewhere.

Finished knitting on January 22, 2016! Started to weave in ends.

Finally, finally, finally on Oct 8, 2016 I seamed the front to the back. It only took approx an hour! I’ll get to wear it this fall!!!

Lessons Learned:

  1. Elizabeth Zimmerman’s lovely rounded bottom edge
  2. Cast off using Perl instead of knit, produces a nice edge
  3. More aware of the properties of Garter stitch where edges meet. Ridges next to the needle or valley. Some of the places where the garter meets has a valley that I didn’t expect, for example I used the saved stitches from the front and back piece to do the sleeves (per pattern) but instead of knitting flat, I knitted in round, so on one side there was a valley on the front and on the other a valley on the back. I believe I could have removed a row (i.e. 1/2 the sleeve circumference) to get rid of the valley. This would have made the back or front half 1 row difference, but probably would have caused the circular garter ridge to work out ok.
  4. EZ’s clever neck shaping for back and front-but-side edges.
  5. Neck opening is approx 1/3 the distance of the total shoulder to shoulder measurement.
