This draft featured weft floats that look like flowers and three end huck lace that resemble leno. There is special denting: using a 12 dent reed, plain weave and flower sections are 2 ends per dent. Lace areas are sleyed 3 per dent with an empty dent on either side.
It does make predicting how wide your warp will be on the loom difficult but it appears to add an additional 1.5 inches per 17 inches planned. (based on this project and two previous).
Wefts used: navy blue 8/2 tencel, a yarn from my stash that is close to 8/2 in size that is a blend of silk, flax and an acrylic in a silvered blue. It really ‘puffed up’ with wet finishing. The other stash weft was a soft mossy green with little flecks of other coloured ‘bits’. Its approx an 8/2 and behaved better.
The fourth runner is also tencel in deep teal…. to come soon as its still on the loom right now.
Weaving is straight forward and uncomplicated. There are two treadles that are tied up as plain weave identically. But if you proceed as per the same tie up arrangement it becomes obvious that both are needed. The two far right plain weave are simply for hems and such. The other is for the flowers and then straight into lace.
Clear as mud?
I still have one runner on the loom and will add it later…. its my favourite of the 4 woven.
