Notes

04-04-2022

I own both editions of Beth Brown-Reinsel’s Gansey book and a bundle of other related publications, from England, Scotland, Holland. and I always wanted to knit one of these sweaters.

I also had promised a sweater to my husband and as his birthday came closer and closer, I could not follow the time-table of Beth’s Patreon-KnitAlong… I had to hurry.

So one evening before his birthday, I finished the Gansey.

And as it was the first time I knitted such an item, it is not 95% perfect (to be 100% perferct would be imposture)

The initials HEG are not very visible and the sleeves are too short, Heinz is no fisherman… So I will have to knit some more rounds - no problem.

The yarn is lovely to knit and as I am a tight knitter I had to use bigger needles to get the right gauge for his size.
The sweater fits perfectly!

variations

I knitted a ribbed hem, started the first rows with 2 strands of the yarn and needles #3,5 and after 5 rows I switched to one strand and #3.25 for the rest of the ribbing.

The body is knitted in#3.5

Yarn:
well I corrected the amount of yarn used as I did not substract the weight of the cone..

So I used around 690 to 700g of that lovely yarn for size 117cm / chest
