Such a versatile pattern, I love it!
Only slightly modified to create these cheeky characters, the mods written below.

All- french knots for eyes, multiple stitches to create a nose.

Santa
Used garter stitch on the beard.

Elf.
Used yellow on rows 11, 12 and 13.

Gnome.
Used garter stitch on beard.

Wizard
Plain hat, added yellow stars.
Used garter stitch on beard.

Witch
No mods

Pierrot clown
For face 4 rows of intarsia- 12 flesh, 6 white, 12 flesh
Used black on rows 11, 12 and 13.
Did row of white single crochet along the row under face, turn,
then a row of black single crochet.
Added 2 black bobbles on hat-
Pick up a stitch in chosen place using black.
Inc k, p, k, p, k wise into the stitch -5sts
Purl a row
k2tog, k1, K2tog -3sts
p3tog
Use end to create a good shape and stitch in place.

Gandalf the Grey
1 row of brown on row 3
Used garter stitch on the beard.

Watermelon Gnome
Bottom green, with a row of pale yellow on row 3 and 4
Hat-
Rows 11, 12 and 13 green.
Rows 14 and 15 pale yellow
The rest in pink.
Add black seeds using embroidery.

Clown.
For face 4 rows of intarsia- 12 hair, 6 white, 12 hair.
Added 2 bobbles on hat-
Pick up a stitch in chosen place using black.
Inc k, p, k, p, k wise into the stitch -5sts
Purl a row
k2tog, k1, K2tog -3sts
p3tog
Use end to create a good shape and stitch in place.
Bow tie, cast on 4, k a row, p a row, k2tog, inc x2, k a row p a row, cast off.
Use the end to wrap around the centre before stitching on.

Princess Cone hat
Contrast belt on row 4.
For face 4 rows of intarsia- 12 hair, 6 flesh, 12 hair.
Added a few strands of wool out of the top of the hat.
Added plaits- I cut 6 strands of hair coloured wool.
One at a time I threaded a strand through a stitch of the hat band next to the side of the face, (pic 3) which meant I had 12 stands hanging- I plaited them and trimmed.

Elsa (Frozen)
Knitted as Princess, added a snowflake to the hat using embroidery floss.

Leprechaun
Green brim- rows 11, 12 and 13
No decreases, continue on 30sts
Black band- rows 14 and 15.
Continue in green SS for 8 more rows
Row 24 Purl
Row 25 (P1, P2tog) repeat to end
Row 26 Knit
Row 27 P1 (P1, P2tog) repeat to last st, P1
Row 28 Knit
Row 29 P2tog across, b&t
Add buckle on hat band.
Used garter stitch on beard

Striped hat.
Rows 11, 12 and 13 1st colour
Then do 2 rows in each colour to end.

Rainbow hat.
Main body red.
For hat- Rows 11-14 violet
Then change colour every 3 rows to end with red.

Bee Gnome
Main body yellow.
Hat- rows 11-14 yellow,
Then alternate 3 rows brown to 3 rows yellow.
Beard- used garter stitch.
Antennae, in black cast on 2sts
4 rows of icord, continuing in icord
Inc x 2- 4sts
K a row
B&t, stitch to hat.
