This afghan was born almost by accident.
Since 2000 we had been involved with King Cole in a project known as Mathghans. Basically, we supplied a booklet and mathematical information to schools and King Cole supplied them with yarn and needles. This was taken up by hundreds of schools across the country.
One day a large parcel of navy and bright yellow yarn arrived at our door. It had been wrongly addressed and was destined for a school wanting to make an afghan in their school colours. When I contacted my friend at King Cole to tell him what had happened he told me to keep it and that he would send another lot to the school. It was chunky yarn, which is thicker than I would normally use so I decided to use it for a very simple project. We only had one example of the afghans in the booklet so this was to be another, more dramatic variation. The squares were arranged to look like dark spirals on a yellow background.
The squares were knitted individually and stitched together. I knitted all the squares in my afghan but they could be knitted by different people and would still fit together.
