Notes

An afghan with an unusual shape, based on the Golden Mean and the Fibonacci Sequence.

The orange shape is known as a Golden Spiral. Adding the border means that the proportions of the completed afghan are not quite those of the Golden Mean.

The Golden Mean is special ratio which has been used widely, around the world, for thousands of years in art and design. It also occurs very often in nature. Items using these proportions ‘look right’ to most people.

This was very easy to make though the last few rows had an awful lot of stitches. It’s one of those things where you are compelled to keep going because the spiral becomes more and more obvious as you go.

I made it in DK yarns. It could be made in other yarns though this would change the overall size.

Leaving off some of the big sections would result in a smaller afghan. I think that would work very well for a pillow or wall-hanging.

I was very pleased with myself when I found a way to make this work so easily. Why didn’t I think of it before!
