Modular knitting doesn’t get much simpler than this - which is what impressed the judges of the International Mohair Competition in 1995 when this coat won second place.
It is so long ago I don’t remember what yarn this was. It was a fairly basic yarn from my local shop. I remember that all entries for the competition had to use yarn with a certain minimum of mohair content but I don’t remember what that figure was.
It was made using the principles in our Woolly Thoughts book. It is very similar to our 4 by 4 Baby Sweater pattern (which is free and can be made to any size). It also has very much in common with a similar coat, and jacket, I made for myself.
There is absolutely no shaping in this coat. It was lined with a navy blue fabric lining to make it even warmer. There was also a hat but the only photo I have is a very old one.
Windmills were a recurring theme in our modular projects. You can see some more in Windmills Sweaters.
