Notes

When creating these illusion knit designs it is nice to come across faces that are full of character. American Gothic, by Grant Wood, seemed to provide an artwork that would respond to illusion knit techniques quite well.

It has been designed to be viewed from the side so is intended to be a wall hanging, throw or bedspread although its use as a wall hanging will cause interesting, but minor, problems because it is quite large.

The version I have created has now been stretched over a “light” but reasonably rigid board to make it more stable when hanging. Stretching the piece in this way, to avoid sagging over time, means that it now measures 120cm wide and 140cm high.

The third photograph here shows the piece when viewed from directly in front and the final image is an animation.
