As a teenager, each year my mother and I would select our Liberty of London fabric and begin to sew. I still select my fabric, but I’ve found it at J Crew! My inspiration for this project was the third photo, the J Crew Liberty puffer coat.
Cast on 216 vs. 240 in order to fit me. Used a provisional cast on and worked the colorwork section first. Added 10 more rows to the body of the garment. (I’m 5’2”) When I got to the armhole I moved the beginning of round so the sweater was centered. Only cast on 5 stitches for the steeks instead of the 11 that the pattern suggested. i lowered the neckline approximately 2 “ and decreased until 24 sts remained on each shoulder. At the shoulder, I put the back stitches on a holder and continued knitting the vest fronts in the gingham section in the tound, making another steek. Instead of the 3 needle bind off, I kitchenered the fronts to the back on a solid row-this created a continuous pattern. I opened a second skein of larch for the last armhole ribbing. Beautiful patterns in the fairisle. I wish chart for the pattern could have been larger or in black and white- the small pattern and colors made it difficult to read even when enlarged. The stranding is great- no more than 3 stitches carried at any one time!
