I’m making this to wear at Shetland Wool Week 2023. My colours have been inspired by a painting, kindly gifted to me by Shetland artist Ruth

I like a tight fit and I’ve read that the pattern comes up slightly large, so I compared CO stitch count, and increased stitch count (on the first row of the body), to my previous fair isle hats, and decided to change the needle sizes. I used 2.25mm for the ribbing and 2.5mm for the body of the hat and it fits perfectly. It’s a bit slouchy on top, but not too much. I’m very happy with it.

The lovely Vicki basilandbelletold me about her very useful method of dealing with ends. She suggested knotting the strands, then weaving the ends under the floats with a crochet hook. It’s so much easier and quicker, I’ll definitely be doing it on all my stranded projects.
