The soles are crocheted, the tops are knitted. Great idea, but the pattern needs a lot of tweaking, especially once you get past the small sizes. Too much work for a $7 pattern.
Yardage used is for 2 pairs.
Making these for my in-laws, with whom we celebrate Christmas at Thanksgiving time every year. This is the first of this year’s, “Gee I have just three days until the holiday so why don’t I cast on for handmade gifts for everyone?” seemingly inevitable holiday drama. Because really, isn’t that what the holidays are all about?
Mods
Both: Went down to a size I hook for the last two rows, then went around the whole top opening with sl st using a size G. This last step was needed to snug it up enough to stay on the foot.
Size XS: Using size 7 needle for the knitted tops.
Size M: The number of DCs before the turn on Row 3 of the sole worked out to 4, not 5. On Row 4, it worked out to 6, not 7. Went up to a size 8 needle for the knitted tops as Paul has a wide foot. Glad I did, because the larger size really needs a wider top than the XS. I also had to add a row of hdc and two rows of sc on the heel end to make it high enough to stay on a man’s foot.
Progress
11/27: Second pair done.
11/25: Starting pair 2 (M).
11/25: Pair 1 (XS) finished. Size turned out perfect. Once you make a pair and work out your own counts, this could be a one-day project.
11/23: All four sole pieces for the first pair are done, am halfway through the first top piece.
11/22: finished the first two soles for the XS, starting the third. It would really help to have the stitch counts for the first few sole rounds included with this relatively pricey pattern. I ended up having to rip back several times due to trial and error, which is so not worth my time.
So glad to find a use for this yarn. The variegation obscures the braided cable a bit, but this is really a nice yarn for slippers.
