4/10/14 - Swatched the BT pattern and decided to follow others’ recommendations and knit it on smaller needles (straight UK8s) even though got the required tension on st st using UK7s (4.5mm). Switched to size 7 circular after the collar.
10/10/15 - Picked it up again after a pause of nearly a year.
Worked the body to almost full length before knitting the sleeves in the round. When sleeves were done, continued the body until yarn ran out.
Mods
- K row 10 of BT pattern - see photo 8.
- Divided for sleeves after 21cm - needed the additional length.
- Added 4 extra sts at each underarm for the body. Decreased these sts from the back on rows 5 & 9. Left extra 2 sts per front to be decreased as normal.
- Front decreases every 10 rows, starting at row 5, ending on row 45.
- Waist shaping in the back: dec 1 at each side on rows 15, 21, 27 & 33, inc 1 at each side on rows 47, 53, 59, 65 & 71.
- Added 6 extra sts at each sleeve underarm. No extra decs, but started them about 12 rows early.
- No ribbing, just st st all the way for sleeves and back.
- For cuffs, smaller needles, 1 repeat of BT on 48 sts in the round, then 2 rows of st st working KfB in last st of penultimate round to give same no. of sts as lower sleeve. See photo 9. Grafted onto sleeve.
- Worked all decs and incs 1 st away from the marker.
- I-cord cast-off for the body: started with the 3 SSE sts (no extra sts cast on), worked K2, K2togtbl, slip 3 sts back to left needle, rep. from . Grafted final 3 sts to the 3 SSE sts. No roll at the back once it was pressed.
1st ball of yarn only lasted to row 9 of 2nd BT repeat. Started 7th ball in middle of divide-for-sleeves row. 1 ball lasted for 20 rows of body, about 65 rows of sleeve. Used all but about 7m of the 13 balls.
New techniques:
- lifted increases
- grafting in the round bottom up to top down
- slipped stitch edge
- I-cord cast-off
