Diamond Stripe Towels

01-19-2024

Started warping.
I counted 10 threads per pattern repeat, so I put 10 ends on each side in black, and the remainder in beige. Then I put 1 more loop through the ends on each side for a FS.

87” length of warp x (11 + 200 + 11)2
87” x 444 = 38,628”
38628 / 36” = 1073 yards warp.
87” x 44 = 3828”
106.33 yards black
87” x 400 = 34800”
966.66 yards beige

I wound it onto the back beam, separated with contact paper. Oh my gosh—new favorite! Smooth as silk, and no tension device.

I have heddle 2 threaded. Heddle 1 tomorrow!

Btw, I hate having to have my iPad open next to the computer, with the pattern open in Etsy. Why can’t I print it?

01-20-2024

I have discovered twisted stitches while threading heddle 1.

Back to the drawing board. I photographed the threading diagram at the end of the new pattern, printed it, and I’m re-threading heddle 2 according to the threading diagram. It’s going much better now. Also have corrected two threading errors so far.

Encountered a third error in the second half of the warp. I’m almost done, but my back is really hurting today. I’m taking frequent breaks.

Time to head out to the last Christmas party of 2023, at Maureen and Garrick’s.

Threaded heddle 2 today. It went much better.

Tied on and started weaving. Looks pretty good.

I got to 25” today, so far.
Right now, I’m thinking of continuing the pattern til I run out of warp. Then I can decide how I’ll use the fabric.

01-24-2024

I’m in the second yard of this fabric. This is fun!

02-01-2024

I zigzagged the edges. It looks great on both sides.
Now to wash and dry…

02-03-2024

Pressing and hemming.

Result:
3 napkins, 15 1/4” wide x 18 3/4”
Turned under 1/2”, then 5/8” and hemmed.

Expect these to shrink more in length, making them square.
