This is a test of one of the blankets in Tom Knisely’s book, Berry Blanket, p. 32. The draft is a dornick twill, worked over 2 blocks.
COLORS: White and pale gray.
3” per color
12” on a 6 dpi reed
(36 gray, 36 white) x 6.
Removed one block of color each side to get it to fit.
36 x 5 = 180
180 ends each color.
9 heddles per shaft per block. 9x4=36.
04/13/2021
Started measuring warp.
04/15/2021
All warp measured.
04/16/2021
Warp wound onto the beam. Had to take one block of color from each side.
04/21/2021
Decided to start weaving without the additional 8 oz of gray yarn.
04/22/2021
Decided to just weave 3 sections of gray at each end and weave double white sections (5) in the center.
Done weaving.
Wet finishing.
LEARNINGS
-
One bi-colored baby blanket requires 1 lb each color.
-
I really chickened out as far as removing warp was concerned. Should have tried harder to see how much I could fit on this warp. I should have at least left 3” of gray to balance the other side.
-
It’s not a bad blanket and is long enough to cover an adult for a nap.
-
I think this one is going to Maddy. (Yes! She loved it!)
-
Yarn used: to do this as I intended, it would take just over 1 gray and slightly more of white. 2 8 oz packages of yarn needed.
-
30” wide in the reed translated to 24” finished.
