Notes

My first project on the Mira.

Warp

Natural 8/2
86 * 4 = 344
344 + 13 ends for end of repeat = 357
+12 each side for Border (+24) = 381 ENDs.

4 yds * 381 = 1524 yds
400-381=19 extra.
8 each side = 16
X Get rid of one loop on the warping board.
1592 yds.

Add 20 ends each side in a twill border when threading and treadling.

Warp will be about 20” wide in the reed.

Threading

Right side: 20 ends of plain twill (10 * 2).

Repeat 4 times:
Birds Eye, 6+7 = 13.
Advancing twill, 3 * 5 = 15.
Advancing twill, part 2, 2 + (3 * 4) = 14.
Center, 4 + 7 + 4 = 15.
Advancing twill, 3 * 5 = 15.
Advancing twill, part 2, 2 + (3 * 4) = 14.

Ending:
Birds Eye, 6+7 = 13.
20 ends of plain twill (10 * 2).

Threaded, 3/13.

Sleying

3/13, sleying…Sleyed.

Tied-on

3/13, tied on.

Weaving!

3/13: weaving! The loom is surprisingly quiet. I don’t really hear the heddles jangling as I did on the HD. It didn’t need any adjustments to weave perfectly either. It was correct from the start.

Now the ball is in my court!

I am weaving with 8/2 cotolin in black as the weft. It is taking a little bit (uh huh!) of time to learn the pattern.

03-14-2024

Ended the black one and started the orange pale. It’s a lovely color. The tension on the warp is perfect.

Time to start winding the next warp. My coquille tencel came today.

03-16-2024

I came downstairs, and Ollie ate the measuring yarn that was on the bobbin at the base of the loom. Stupid cat.

Continuing to work, one repeat at a time.

03-18-2024

Finished weaving tonight. Will take it off the loom tomorrow.

03-19-2024

It is off and folded up by my sewing machine, waiting for the ends to be zigzagged.

03-20-2024

I’ve got the ends zigzagged and the orange one is in the washer.

03-21-24

It’s dry, and waiting to be ironed.

03-22-2024

It is pressed with hems pressed, too.

03-25-2024

Orange pale table runner was hemmed by hand.

03-26-2024

The black cotolin towel is in the washer.

4-05-2024

The orange one is in the washer again due to a kitty accident. black_cat

4-09-2024

The orange one is pressed, and ready to go onto the table as soon as I get it cleaned off.

The black one is half hemmed…I did one hem edge yesterday during the eclipse.

4-13-24

Photos taken.

Learnings

  1. I should have sett this at 22 or 24 epi.
  2. I should have done more repeats of the border on the black one.
  3. I should have woven the table runner 12” longer. It shrank lots during finishing, so now it barely lays over the edges of the table.
