→ J’ai crocheté ces deux jolis chats assis pour décorer le Book Nook “Eternal Bookstore” offert par mon chéri et terminé en Février 2023. Initialement, il était prévu que je n’en fasse qu’un mais comme j’ai beaucoup aimé le modèle et qu’il se crochète rapidement, j’ai voulu en faire un deuxième, en gris, pour représenter mon Alias.

→ J’ai crocheté le mini chat marron du 06 au 13 Octobre 2023 avec un crochet 1mm et 3 brins de DMC Mouliné Spécial n°25 col. 435 marron. Il mesure environ 2,2cm de haut sur 1,1cm de large.

→ Je voulais faire le second chat avec deux nuances différentes de fil à broder gris mais c’était un calvaire des séparer les brins des échevettes et, dans le même temps, d’assembler les deux nuances sur une même cartonnette. De ce fait, j’ai sorti mon plus fin coton à crocheter gris : c’était l’occasion de voir la différence de taille.

→ J’ai donc crocheté le petit chat gris du 17 au 20 Octobre 2023 avec un crochet 1,25mm et du fil Rico Design Essentials Crochet col. 018 silver grey. Il mesure environ 2,8cm de haut sur 1,9cm de large.

→ La vidéo présente dans le tutoriel était très utile pour sculpter le corps des chats et broder leurs pattes.

→ J’ai crocheté chaque chat en cercle parfait et mailles serrées torses, sauf pour la queue et les oreilles. Aux rangs 19, j’ai fait des diminutions non invisibles car c’était trop petit pour les faire dans les brins arrières sans risquer de casser le fil.

→ Je n’ai pas fait de visage au mini chat marron car je n’avais pas d’aiguille assez fine et je ne voulais pas casser les brins des mailles avec une aiguille trop grosse. De plus, je comptais mettre le chat relativement à l’arrière dans le Book Nook donc on n’aurait même pas vu ces détails.

→ En revanche, comme le chat gris est plus grand et moins fragile, j’ai voulu essayer de lui broder un visage une fois les oreilles cousues :
- Nez & bouche : J’ai utilisé 3 brins de fil à broder rose pâle et j’ai suivi les explications du tutoriel.
- Yeux : J’ai improvisé deux yeux ronds en passant quatre fois 2 brins de fil à broder noir autour de la maille.
- Moustaches : J’ai tenté de lui faire des petites moustaches avec du fil à broder blanc et je suis très contente du résultat ! Pour cela, j’ai coupé 3 brins sur quelques centimètres, fait des nœuds au centre puis rentré ce dernier dans la maille sous le nez, en faisant sortir les brins de part et d’autre à 1 maille du centre. J’ai détortillé les brins puis posé une petite couche de vernis à ongles transparent pour les durcir légèrement et les maintenir en place.

→ Une fois les deux petits chats terminés, je les ai placés dans le Book Nook ! Pour les fixer sans que cela ne soit définitif (notamment pour qu’ils tiennent en place le temps de remettre le Book Nook sur l’étagère), j’ai posé une petite boule de pâte à fixer dans le creux du dessous. Ça ne “colle” pas réellement sur le crochet mais c’est suffisant pour ne pas qu’ils tombent, en espérant que cela ne fasse pas de taches dans le temps.

→ J’adore cet ajout dans le Book Nook, je trouve que c’est très mignon et ça apporte une matière et une texture différente à cet ensemble de bois et de papier ! Je suis particulièrement fan du petit chat gris que j’ai placé au premier plan, et de ses petites moustaches !

→ Le chat fait en fil à broder était un premier test pour crocheter en miniature, notamment pour créer par la suite des objets et de la dînette pour mes MilliGurumis. J’avais fait un premier essai au crochet 0,75mm avec 2 brins de fil à broder mais c’était trop petit pour moi, visuellement parlant. De plus, il faut séparer les brins de toute l’échevette et enrouler le nombre désiré sur une cartonnette avant de pouvoir crocheter pour éviter que les brins ne s’emmêlent, ce qui est très long (ex : pour le chat marron, j’ai séparé l’échevette de 6 brins en deux cartonnettes de 3 brins chacune). Ce fil est également très fragile : à plusieurs reprises, l’un des brins se cassait au passage du crochet. De ce fait, pour mes projets miniatures, je vais rester sur du coton à crocheter et je ferai des recherches pour trouver des gammes qui se crochètent confortablement au crochet 1mm.

→ I crocheted these two pretty cats to decorate the “Eternal Bookstore” Book Nook offered by my darling and finished in February 2023. Initially, I was only going to make one cat, but as I really liked the pattern and it was quick to crochet, I wanted to make a second one, in grey, to represent my Alias.

→ I crocheted the brown tiny cat from October 06 to 13, 2023 with a 1mm crochet hook and 3 strands of DMC Mouliné Spécial n°25 col. 435 brown. It measures about 2,2cm (0.9”) high and 1,1cm (0.4”) wide.

→ I wanted to make the second cat with two different shades of grey embroidery thread, but it was a nightmare to separate the strands from the hanks and, at the same time, assemble the two shades on the same cardboard. So I took out my thinnest grey crochet cotton : it was a good opportunity to see the size difference.

→ So I crocheted the little grey cat from October 17 to 20, 2023 with a 1,.25mm crochet hook and Rico Design Essentials Crochet col. 018 silver grey. It measures about 2,8cm (1.1”) high and 1,9cm (0.7”) wide.

→ The video in the tutorial was very useful for sculpting the cats’ bodies and embroidering their paws.

→ I crocheted each cat in a perfect circle and in X shaped single crochet, except for the tail and ears. At row 19, I made non-invisible decreases because it was too small to make them in the back loops without risking breaking the thread.

→ I didn’t make a face to the tiny brown cat because I didn’t have a needle fine enough and I didn’t want to break the strands of the stitches with a needle too big. Plus, I was going to put the cat relatively far back in the Book Nook, so we wouldn’t even have seen those details.

→ However, as the grey cat is larger and less fragile, I wanted to try embroidering a face to it once the ears had been sewn on :
- Nose & mouth : I used 3 strands of pale pink embroidery thread and followed the instructions of the tutorial.
- Eyes : I improvised two round eyes by wrapping 2 strands of black embroidery thread around the stitch four times.
- Whiskers : I tried to make little whiskers with white embroidery thread and I’m very happy with the result ! To do this, I cut 3 strands over a few centimeters, tied knots in the center and then tucked it into the stitch under the nose, bringing the strands out on each side 1 stitch from the center. I untwisted the strands, then applied a small coat of clear nail varnish to harden them slightly and hold them in place.

→ Once the two little cats were finished, I placed them in the Book Nook ! To fix them in place without making that permanent ( especially to keep them in place while I put the Book Nook back on the shelf), I put a little ball of adhesive putty in the hollow underneath. It doesn’t really “stick” to the crochet part, but it’s enough to keep them from falling off, in the hope that it won’t stain over time.

→ I love this addition to the Book Nook, I think it’s really cute and brings a different material and texture to this wood and paper set ! I particularly like the little grey cat in the foreground, with its little whiskers !

→ The cat made from embroidery thread was a first test for crocheting in miniature, in particular to create objects and doll’s tea set for my MilliGurumis later on. I had first tried crocheting with a 0,75mm crochet hook and 2 strands of embroidery thread, but it was visually too small for me. Moreover, you have to separate the strands from the whole hank and wind the desired number onto a cardboard before you can crochet, to prevent the strands from tangling, which is very time-consuming (e.g. : for the brown cat, I separated the 6-strand hank into two cardboards of 3 strands each). This yarn is also very fragile : on several occasions, one of the strands broke when the crochet hook passed through it. As a result, for my miniature projects, I’m going to stay with crochet cotton and do some research to find ranges that are comfortable to crochet with a 1mm crochet hook.
