Square created for the 2014 Knit and Crochet Show Yarn Bombing in Manchester, NH, July 2014. Squares are to be displayed yarn-bomb style (with approval) at the conference hotel during the conference.
7.5 mm black eyes from 6060 eyes.
Modifications to pattern:
Omitted shell bottom. Did ‘joining’ round of shell in front loops of shell top.
Flippers: Made flippers as single layer instead of in the round by cutting round instructions ~in half and working back and forth… did very tight ch in magic ring, omitted starting chains at beginnings of rows, just pulled up a loop to make sc. Remember to reverse the increases/decreases on alternate rows! Omitted the color change rows.
Assembly: Attached head and flippers to underside of shell. Attached body to square using unused loops under shell using the ‘sand’ color (to keep the back neat). Added a bit of stuffing btwn the shell and the square… being careful to balance puffing up the shell enough w/o bulging too much under the square. Tacked down the flippers gently using the ‘sand’ color… a bit of peek-thru of stitches on them is no biggie as you know how sand gets on everything!
