I ended up making 5 rows of skulls.

I added two extra rows of 3dc, ch2 to the top to add some stability before adding the final border row.

I omitted the pompom on the final row, and instead of a treble crochet plus 2 ch at the beginning and end of the final row, I used a dc and zero chain stitches.

OMG I love it!
